C&H Hardware was established on February 1, 1997, in an 800 sq. ft. 2 car garage bay located at Mountain View BP by John C. Cothren and Matthew D. Higgins. In 1998 land was purchased in an adjacent lot with construction of the new hardware store starting in the fall of 1998. This was all made possible by the help of a local banker (Tathel Miller) who believed in two 20-year-old young men.

The building was 2048 sq. ft. of retail space and the same downstairs for bulk storage.  In 2004 a 1000 sq. ft. feed room addition was added to the existing building along with air conditioning to the retail space.  At this time the business was renamed Mountain View Hardware LLC.  The former Mountain View Grocery store was purchased in the spring of 2015 with major renovations complete by the summer of 2016.

On August 11, 2016, Mountain View Hardware LLC was moved to its current location of 4511 Rock Creek Road.  A second location was established at 5287 Speedway Road in the Windy Gap Community on February 14, 2017, in a 4000 sq. ft. building.  The current owners are the Cothren Family.
